CSA 2010 Safety Measurement System
Instead of SafeStat, CSA 2010 uses a new Safety Measurement System (SMS) to quantify on-road safety performance of carriers and drivers.
The SMS takes into consideration the following Behavior Analysis Safety Improvement Categories (BASICS):
• Unsafe Driving
• Fatigued Driving
• Driver Fitness
• Controlled Substances
and Alcohol
• Vehicle Maintenance
• Cargo Issues
• Crashes |

What is CSA 2010?
CSA 2010 is a new initiative by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration designed to improve safety, compliance and enforcement programs. The new CSA 2010 standard holds carriers and drivers responsible for safety and performance.
Unlike the current compliance review program, the CSA 2010 approach directly monitors the safety and performance of individual drivers and monitors a driver's record across multiple employers.
How to Prepare for CSA 2010
There are several steps you can take now to prepare for CSA 2010.
- Ensure you are in compliance by reviewing inspections and violation history for the past 2 years.
- Be proactive and address safety issues and concerns now.
- Provide driver training to make drivers aware of the new standards. Make drivers aware how their driving record impacts your safety record.
- Review and update your Motor Carrier Census Form.
- Visit the FMCSA CSA 2010 website often for the latest information.
